After watching a rehearsal for "Le Sacre du Printemps"
with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra (captured on the DVD "Rhythm
is it"), Xavier Le Roy decided to work with Stravinsky’s
classic piece himself. Le Roy applied an elaborate process to study
the conductor’s interpretation of the music. The resulting
material provides the structure for his choreography. Here cause,
effect and functions shift: the gestures and movements seem to be
brought on by the music itself, raising the question: when is one
performing and when is one performed by the music?

Xavier Le Roy studied molecular biology
in Montpellier, and has worked as a dancer and choreographer since
1991. He was artist in residence at Podewil (Berlin) from 1997 -
2003 and is currently Associated Artist at the Centre Chorégraphique
National de Montpellier (F). "Le Sacre du Printemps" was
created in 2007.
